- AN OVERVIEW
-
-
-
- What is PCX-VIEW?
-
- PCX-VIEW is a PC based Screen Show and Presentation program.
- It enables you to display exciting graphics screens, link
- different ones together and automatically show each one in
- sequence, displaying each one for a different length of time
- if required, and even fade them in and out as they are
- displayed. The images displayed may also be faded or merged
- horizontally or vertically.
-
- PCX-VIEW takes as input standard black and white or two colour
- .PCX type graphics files which are commonly used by popular
- PC desk top painting, publishing and drawing programs.
-
- These graphics files are readily available and easily
- produced, though if you do not have a particular one to suit
- your needs, we are able to produce them for you from your
- samples or artwork, add additional text in many different
- styles, and colour as required. This service is inexpensive
- and we can normally let you have the files back by return of
- post.
-
- PCX-VIEW Programs
-
- PCX-VIEW comprises two programs, SHOWPCX the image file
- positioning, sizing and colouring program which produces a
- compressed image file for rapid display, and SHOW, the image
- display program.
- SHOWPCX allows the .PCX image file to be positioned on the
- screen as required, enlarged or reduced for optimum effect and
- the foreground and background colours amended if required to
- ensure maximum impact.
-
- SHOW has command line switches or parameters which enable the
- image to be displayed for a particular time interval using a
- particular fade mode.
-
- Automatic Screen Shows
-
- Multiple SHOW commands are linked together in a list file to
- produce a changing series of displays. The list file is simply
- executed or invoked by one command which may be included in a
- batch file or other program for automatic execution.
- This feature is particularly useful perhaps as part of an
- introduction to a company demonstration, and may be
- particularly valuable as the demonstration may be tailored
- with not only the name of the presenting company, but also
- with the logo and name of the company being presented to : The
- Customer.
-
-
-
-
-
-

- Disk Contents
-
- Filename Description
-
- SHOWPCX.EXE The image file sizing, positioning, colouring &
- compression program
- SHOW.EXE The display, timing and automation program
- PCXVIEW.MAN The PCX-VIEW Users Manual
- README.DOC Printing instructions for the manual
- Various demonstration files, executed via "runme"
-
- Installing PCX-VIEW
-
- The following installation procedures contain the instructions
- for setting up the PCX-VIEW programs for Floppy Disk or Hard
- Disk operation.
-
- Floppy Disk System
-
- Format one (1) floppy disk
-
- Insert the PCX-VIEW Shareware Disk into drive A, and a newly
- formatted diskette into drive B. At the DOS prompt, enter the
- following commands:
-
- A> COPY SHOWPCX.EXE B:
- A> COPY SHOW.EXE B:
-
- These are the two program files necessary to run PCX-VIEW. You
- will also require the image files (.PCX) that you wish to use
- to create your display routine. These may be kept on a seperate
- diskette, or copied onto your new working program disk. We
- suggest they should be kept seperate from your programs.
- Once the programs have been copied to your new working program
- disk in drive B, remove the shareware program disk from drive
- A and store it for safe keeping.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Now place your new working program disk into drive A. The
- installation of the program disk is complete. You are now ready
- to start the program and create your Display Sequences.
-
- Hard Disk Systems
-
- To run PCX-VIEW from your Hard Disk, it is suggested that you
- first create a sub-directory for the PCX-VIEW program files.
- From this new directory containing the program files, create
- another directory that will contain your image and display
- files. This will keep your hard disk organised, and make it
- easier to selectively backup or copy the display files you
- create.
-
- Ensure you are in the root directory of your hard disk:
-
- C> CD\
-
- Next, create a subdirectory for the PCX-VIEW program files:
-
- C> MD PCX-VIEW
-
- Go to this new directory and create another sub-directory:
-
- CD PCX-VIEW
-
- C> MD IMAGES
-
- While still in the PCX-VIEW directory, Insert the PCX-VIEW
- Shareware Disk into Drive A and issue the following commands:
-
- C> COPY A: SHOWPCX.EXE C:
- C> COPY A: SHOW.EXE C:
-
- These are the two program files necessary to run PCX-VIEW.
- Once they have been copied to your Hard Disk, go to your new
- IMAGES subdirectory:
-
- C> CD IMAGES
-
- Copy any demonstration/sample image files from the shareware
- program disk:
-
- C> COPY A:*.PCX C:
- C> COPY A:*.SCR C:
-
- When completed, remove the Shareware program diskette from
- Drive A and store it for safe keeping. You may now copy any of
- your own .PCX image files to your images subdirectory if you
- wish.
- You are now ready to start the program and create your display
- sequences.

- PROGRAM OPERATION
-
- General
-
- To create a displayable sequence of images, the following steps
- are required:
-
- 1. Use SHOWPCX to input a .PCX image file; position, size and
- colour the image on the screen as you wish it to be displayed.
- 2. Save the desired image in compressed format (.SCR type file)
- 3. Repeat 1 and 2 above for each image to be displayed.
- 4. Use the SHOW program to display the saved image for the
- length of time required, fading the image in or out.
- 5. Build a list file of multiple SHOW statements, one for each
- image to be displayed.
- 6. Use the SHOW program to execute the list file.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
